One of our first birds of the day was the siting of the Great Horned Owl. The biggest surprise of the day was seeing the American White Pelican.  This is the first trip of the year where we saw the five species of Swallows for the day.  We also saw more creepers than usual.  We were constantly getting very good peaks of the Common Yellowthroat.

Guemes Island – Tuesday, April 25, 2017
It was a good day for bird watching and we had a nice variety of birds on our list.  One thing that stood out while being very sad, was finding a dead nighthawk at one of our stops.  Most of the birders had only seen them flying and were impressed with the feather coloring.  On the brighter side, we had many Orange-crowned Warblers singing and also many white-crowned sparrows.  We did decide that it  was better to bird Guemes at this time instead of the winter January months.

It was snowing in the pass and the temperature barely hit 40 degrees with wind.  Thus to say we had a cold birding day.  However, the good news is that we were able to enjoy seeing the warblers, flycatchers, magpies and the Say’s Pheobe.
