Global Big Day & Birdathon Field Trip Registration

As part of our Birdathon fundraiser this year, we are offering a few field trips led by experienced Pilchuck Audubon birders on May 13th, this year’s Global Big Day!

As these field trips are fundraisers for our Birdathon, we are asking participants to make a donation of any amount prior to attending. For those who are not PAS members already, a donation of $35 or more will include a one-year chapter membership.

These field trips will be limited to 10 participants each to ensure quality birding opportunities, so it’s a first come first serve registration process.

Current field trip offerings:

Osprey Park (Sultan)

  • Led by Jeff Hambleton

  • 8-10am

  • We will walk 1.5 to 2 miles clockwise through the park exploring riparian forest, the Sultan River and Winter's Lake before returning along the playfields. Likely to see typical western Washington lowland residents plus newly arrived neotropical migrants. Swainson's Thrushes, Western Tanager, Common Yellowthroat; Yellow-rumped, Black-throated Gray and Wilson's warblers likely. Belted Kingfisher, American Dipper and Spotted Sandpiper possible. Trail is flat and wheelchair accessible. Mostly gravel with wet spots, wear appropriate footwear if recent rain. Will plan to go, rain or shine.

Ebey Waterfront Trail (Marysville)

  • Led by Phil Dickinson

  • 8-10am

  • We will walk the paved, accessible trail along Ebey Slough past the adjacent Marysville Treatment Plant and out to the Qwuloolt Estuary. A variety of ducks feed in the treatment ponds, and we also will be watching for resident raptors, marsh birds and spring migrants on this 1.25-mile walk. Bring your binoculars, if you have them, and dress appropriately for the weather.

Barnum Point (Camano Island)

  • Led by Graham Hutchison

  • 8-11am

  • We will look for spring migrants, water birds, forest passerines, woodpeckers, occasional raptors and any other fine feathered friends. We will go rain or shine so bring an extra wet weather layer just in case, running shoes or sturdier are fine, a snack, and binoculars. Depending on which trails we take we will cover about 1.5-2.0 miles of easy trails.

We will provide exact meeting locations after registration. Please do not show up if you’re not registered so we do not exceed manageable group sizes.

As trips fill up, we will remove them from the this page.

To sign up, please:

  1. Complete the registration form below.

  2. Then make a donation of any amount to our Birdathon. On the donation page, select “Birdathon Field Trip” in the dropdown menu.
