Upcoming Birding Trips
Field trips will begin again starting in September. Please review the COVID-19 guidelines before attending a field trip. At this time, we are unable to accommodate unvaccinated individuals on our field trips. All participants must sign a liability release before participating and submit it to the field trip leader or to our executive director.
2024 Field Trip Liability Release and Indemnity Agreement
UPDATE: We have rescinded our previous COVID-19 requirements, and will be following the current County guidelines, which can be found here: https://www.snohd.org/538/STATE-LOCAL-Guidance
Open to Everyone
Our field trips are open to anyone and all are welcome. You do not need to be an Audubon member to participate.
Trip Leaders and Field Trip Costs
Our field trips are free to attend. However, our trip leaders are volunteers and receive no compensation. If you carpool with someone, it is common courtesy to compensate the driver for your share of gas and vehicle use. You are also responsible for any park entry fees, parking passes, and ferry fares.

What to Bring
Participants should bring their own binoculars and/or scopes if they have them. Outings are typically for several hours, so bring enough food and water for the entire time. Appropriate clothing - layers and raincoats are often a must. Drivers should bring your Discover Pass or any other passes you might have.
What Not to Bring or Do
Dogs are not allowed on our outings. Pishing and playback calls are allowed at the trip leader’s discretion.
Skill Level
We provide a variety of outings that accommodate many birding skill levels. Birders of all levels of ability are welcome on all outings. Most trips are great for beginning birders, as our experienced birders love to teach and share their passion and knowledge with newcomers.
This is a half-day trip. We’ll visit several sites in south Bothell. This will be a moderately challenging walk. Boots recommended. Further details will be provided to registered participants. After you have submitted your 2024 Field Trip Liability Release online, please contact the trip leader, in order to register for the trip.

Meet at the Monroe Park & Ride, 17422 Highway 2 (west of the fairgrounds). We’ll visit Osprey Park for a level two-mile walk through riparian habitat along the Sultan River, where salmon habitat restoration has produced many braided side channels and bridge crossings. Possible species include American Dipper and Spotted Sandpiper. From there it is a short drive to Mann Road/Vos Road along the Skykomish River. Possible species include nesting Western Kingbirds, as well as Lazuli Bunting, Yellow-breasted Chat and Eastern Kingbird. Pack a lunch — we’ll eat with bird feeders in view. If time allows, after lunch we’ll take a short drive to Lake Chaplain Road, where Virginia Rails are likely. Dusky Flycatcher was seen earlier in the spring.
Trip leader: Jeff Hambleton (425-923-0227)
Meet at the Marysville Walmart, 8713 64th St NE. Park in the back lot and away from the store. Our birding route may vary according to recent sightings but could include Trafton Trailhead, Riverview Meadows County Park, 12th St and Marine Park in Everett, and Baywood Nature Trail. We’ll look for whatever we can find, including nesting Osprey and Bank Swallows, flycatchers, warblers and, if we’re lucky, some shorebirds. Pack a lunch.

Please join Academia Latina and the Pilchuck Audubon Society for a visit to Lake Ballinger in Mountlake Terrace on Saturday, July 20th. We will meet at 1:00 PM near the boat ramp and swimming hole. This is not our standard time for outings because we want it to be warm enough to go into the water. The address is 23600 Lakeview Dr. Here are directions. From Pacific Highway/State Route 99 turn east on 228th Street SW (from southbound 99 it is a left turn).
We will see what birds we can find and hopefully dip our toes into the pond. We have seen lots of geese, ducks, and other water birds there in previous years. Bring your bathing suit, water, and a picnic lunch for your party. Also bring binoculars and a field guide if you have them. No dogs.
Trip leaders: Rosamaria Graziani, Jonathan Blubaugh (425-244-7633), Judy Hall
Please join Academia Latina and the Pilchuck Audubon Society for a visit to Silver Lake in Everett on Saturday, August 17th at 9:00AM. We will meet at Thornton A. Sullivan Park. It has a large parking lot. The address is 11405 Silver Lake Rd, Everett, WA 98208. From I-5 if you are carpooling exit from the left lane into the South Everett Park and Ride. In the park and ride go out to 112th St. and turn left. Cross the freeway and take the first right on Silver Lake Rd. The parking lot will be on your left. If you are not carpooling it will take a little longer to get there. Take the Highway 527 Exit/Bothell-Everett Highway from I-5. Head south toward Bothell. Turn right on 112th St. Turn left onto Silver Lake Rd.
We will explore the park for birds. It is renowned for waterfowl and nesting raptors. There should be lots of cute ducklings and goslings for the eagles. I think we can walk all the way around the lake, if you don’t mind walking through a couple of small residential neighborhoods. Bring water, sturdy walking shoes, and a picnic lunch for your party. Also bring binoculars and a field guide if you have them. No dogs.
Trip leaders: Rosamaria Graziani, Jonathan Blubaugh (425-244-7633), Judy Hall
Meet at 7:00 AM at Eastmont Park and Ride (2020 El Capitan Way in Everett), I-5 exit 189, east side. We’ll aim for the 8:00 AM ferry from Mukilteo. Sunset Beach, Deer Lagoon, Crockett Lake and other spots on South Whidbey often yield a varied species list, and we’ll especially look for migrating shorebirds. Pack a lunch. We’ll aim to return on time, but be aware that wait time for the return ferry trip is unpredictable.
Trip leader: Teri Martine (206-522-2920)
Meet at the Quil Ceda Village Walmart lot west of Marysville (I-5 exit 200, for 8924 Quil Ceda Blvd). Park away from the store, to the east, near Quil Ceda Blvd. (next to I-5). In search of migrating shorebirds, we may visit Hayton (Fir Island Farms Reserve), Channel Drive, March Point, and/or Leque Island, but itinerary will depend on recent sightings and conditions. Pack a lunch.
