Trip Report: Leavenworth

May 30, 2023

After creeping through dense fog at Stevens Pass, we broke into mild sunny weather east of the mountains. Highlights for everyone were Pygmy Nuthatches and White-headed Woodpeckers feeding young at Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort. The woodpecker was a lifer for several in our group, as were a Gray Flycatcher and a pair of Red-naped Sapsuckers at Camas Meadows. A couple of people spotted a Loggerhead Shrike at the Leavenworth Fish Hatchery. Other notable birds were Harlequin Duck, Red Crossbill, Nashville Warbler, Cedar Waxwing. Spotted Sandpiper and Lazuli Bunting. Heading home, many of us stopped in Sultan to find previously-reported Yellow-breasted Chats. Eastern and Western Kingbirds perched together were a bonus.
