Early mist and later winds reduced our waterfowl sightings but woodland birds were active and we ended up with a pretty good species count for the day. Trip leader Graham Hutchison led us to Utsalady Bay, Smith Lake, Barnum Point, Iverson Point, and other sites. At Barnum Point, we saw Hutton’s Vireo, Black-capped and Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Golden- and Ruby-crowned Kinglet, and Brown Creeper. The highlights at Iverson Point were Virginia Rail, Western Grebe, and Red-breasted Merganser. Waterfowl included Greater Scaup, Barrow’s ad Common Goldeneye, Common Merganser, Horned Grebe, and Pigeon Guillemot.
