Our Tuesday birders traveled inland to the Darrington area in search of spring migrants. Ducks were few but included Wood Duck, Blue-winged Teal and Common Merganser. Noteworthy woodland birds were Hammond’s and Pacific-slope Flycatcher; Nashville, Orange-crowned, Black-throated Gray and Townsend’s Warbler; American Dipper; and Red-breasted Sapsuckes. Open areas yielded Vesper Sparrow, Evening Grosbeak, Vaux Swift, American Pipit and Chipping Sparrow. The tally also included Sora, Spotted Sandpiper and Peregrine Falcon.
