Trip Report: Guemes Island

Sunshine on Guemes Island made for what was undoubtedly a record species tally for this trip, including numerous Orange-crowned Warblers, Purple Finches, swallows and an early Yellow Warbler. Other songbirds included Black-throated Gray Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Townsend’s Solitaire and nest-building Chestnut-backed Chickadees. A Merlin also sped by. Waterbirds included Harlequin Duck, Common Goldeneye, Common Loon and a calling Sora. We welcomed several new Tuesday birders and much appreciated the lunchtime hospitality extended by Sally Stapp and Dick Brigham.
