Morning fog gave to sunny skies by noon, and our large group enjoyed excellent birding. Black Oystercatchers always are a highlight on this trip, and we saw several at Rosario and Bowman Bay. Deception Pass waters also held Pigeon Guillemot, Rhinoceros Auklet and Marbled Murrelet. On land, some highlights were California Quail, juvenile Downy Woodpecker, Purple Martin. Yellow Warbler, Wilson’s Warbler and Orange-crowned Warbler. Dugualla Bay offered Spotted and Least Sandpiper, Greater Yellowlegs, baby Killdeer and an out-of-season Common Goldeneye. We ended with the growing American White Pelican colony at Padilla Bay.
