Sun, beautiful mountain scenery and White-headed Woodpecker parents feeding their young were the highlights of this popular trip. At Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort, we saw the woodpeckers, White-breasted and Pygmy Nuthatches and House Wrens. At the nearby fish hatchery, we watched Eastern Kingbirds, Yellow Warblers and a Nashville Warbler. In the afternoon at Camas Meadows, we enjoyed views of Western Tanagers, Red Crossbills, a Hairy Woodpecker and assorted of wildflowers. Overall, the birds were few in numbers despite ideal weather conditions, emphasizing our concerns about their future in a changing climate.
