An early-morning snow shower failed to deter our hardy group from enjoying a pretty good day of winter birding. A California Scrub Jay greeted us at our first stop at Jennings Park, where we also found a flock of Bushtits and several Northern Flickers. After hearing a Virginia Rail at Harborview Park, newer birders especially were thrilled to get good looks at Cinnamon Teal, Wilson’s Snipe and Cooper’s Hawk along the Ebey Waterfront Trail. Tulalip Bay species included Red-throated Loon, Black-bellied Plover, Red-breasted Merganser, and Black and Ruddy Turnstone. We added Common Loon, Red-necked Grebe and Rhinoceros Auklet at Kayak Point, and finished with Canvasbacks and a Brown Creeper at Lake Goodwin.
