Birding: Silver Lake

Photo: Osprey by Mick Thompson

Please join Academia Latina and the Pilchuck Audubon Society for a visit to Silver Lake in Everett on Saturday, August 17th at 9:00AM. We will meet at Thornton A. Sullivan Park. It has a large parking lot. The address is 11405 Silver Lake Rd, Everett, WA 98208. From I-5 if you are carpooling exit from the left lane into the South Everett Park and Ride. In the park and ride go out to 112th St. and turn left. Cross the freeway and take the first right on Silver Lake Rd. The parking lot will be on your left. If you are not carpooling it will take a little longer to get there. Take the Highway 527 Exit/Bothell-Everett Highway from I-5. Head south toward Bothell. Turn right on 112th St. Turn left onto Silver Lake Rd.

We will explore the park for birds. It is renowned for waterfowl and nesting raptors. There should be lots of cute ducklings and goslings for the eagles. I think we can walk all the way around the lake, if you don’t mind walking through a couple of small residential neighborhoods. Bring water, sturdy walking shoes, and a picnic lunch for your party. Also bring binoculars and a field guide if you have them. No dogs.
